Stamp Making Tip

So for a while now I have been looking for a cheap and easy stamp making technique. Something that means I can create text stamps easily and small motifs for use in art journaling. I was really interested in stamps that stick to acrylic blocks.

I already make lino stamps which are great but time consuming and fiddly for making text because you have to reverse everything. So I Googled it and found the following tutorials:

None of the above really worked for me in the way that I wanted although they are all great tutorials. I had pretty much given up when recently I stumbled across a great idea: beeswax. I have been using beeswax recently in my art and had a tray I had made from clay to create a silicone caulk stamp. So I melted some beeswax in the tray and carved my design into the flat surface. I then spread rubber latex across it and left to dry for a couple of days. When I pulled the stamp out of the mould I was thrilled to discover it stuck to my acrylic block making stamping very easy. The best thing about beeswax is, while the mould is reusable for the same stamp it is also simple to remelt the wax with a heat tool and create another mould in the same set up. No mess, no waste. Also this is a really straightforward way to make a custom written stamp as you carve it as you want to see it. After pulling the stamp I trim the rough edges.

If you try this and it works for you I would love to hear about it. Happy stamp making xx
