Textured Art Journal Page – 3 Fun Ways to Add Texture You’ll Love.

In this textured art journal page I will show you 3 ways to add texture.[br][br] The quote for this page is:[br]

The bad news is time flies, the good news is you're the pilot.
[br] It reminds me that although time on Earth is limited you get to make decisions about how you spend it. Even if you are stuck in bed with illness or have a lot of things that you have to do every day you can still choose what to think about. All the great human inventions we have to be thankful for started out as an idea in someone’s thoughts so who’s to say that you can’t have an idea that changes the world? I loved the idea of celebrating this freedom in an art journal page and the techniques of adding texture that I have chosen hint at the depth of the unconscious mind and the process of revealing what is hidden there.[br][br]

Magnificent Mechanical Memories – Steampunk Art Journal Page

My, inspired by steampunk art journal page is a foray into the world of ‘makivity’ (a word my son came up with at an early age to describe his cardboard creations). For steampunk is not just an aesthetic style but a whole culture around unique mechanical self built objects. The steampunk universe stretches over art, illustration, statues, sculptures, film, music, stories. [br][br]When I came up with my quote:[br][br]

I’m Possible, not impossible
[br]for the first week of my next art journaling course I was reminded of the steampunk ethos. Rather than focus on the impossibility of the things we can’t do, think of ways we can make them possible. I give the example of flight; for humans it is impossible - unaided. But with the help of machines we can fly and this is where my thinking about possibility and steampunk came together. Why not a mysterious flying machine steampunk art journal page? Exactly I thought, so that’s what I did.

3 Excellent Reasons to Celebrate World Cocktail Day

World cocktail day apparently has its origins on May 13th 1806 when the word ‘cocktail’ was coined. I couldn’t find out if it is a day that has been celebrated since then or if ‘World Cocktail Day’ itself is a newer institution. The lack of clarity notwithstanding, it cannot be denied that cocktails practically have their own religion as popular as they are.

3 Gorgeous Fluorescent Colours You Need to Use in Your Next Painting

Fluorescent colours are such fun but the paint normally fades in prolonged exposure to sunlight so an art journal is a great place to play with them as the pages are protected. [br][br]

Choosing Fluorescent Colours in Paints

You can get fluorescent colours in:[br][br] [br][br] format. I have added some links to the list above to products that you might want to check out. In pigment format they can be added to any binder you choose or resin, soaps, candles. I’ve only tried the pigments with resin and they do work nicely.

3 Inspiring National Tea Day Celebratory Art Ideas

National tea day has been celebrated on 21st April since 2016. I decided to make an art journal page for national tea day 2022 so started off by visiting the website for national tea day in UK.[br][br]

What is National Tea Day About?

Us Brits love our tea don’t we? I know I do and not just your standard cuppa. Herbal teas are a firm favourite and have health benefits that we have been taking advantage of for centuries. So National tea day aims to celebrate this tradition by dedicating a day to it each year. The organisation behind the celebration organises on and offline events to honour the humble cuppa. Of course tea drinking in the UK isn’t just about the brew, it has a whole raft of associated culture. I’m thinking of tea and biscuits to ‘dunk’ in it, or high tea with scones and cakes or even the notorious builder’s brew - strong and in a big mug. There’s also tea parties and teddy bear’s picnics where the teapot rules supreme. All this is a lot of fuel for art journaling inspiration and so I came up with 3 themes for national tea day art journal pages to share with you.[br][br]

St David’s Day 1st March Card Design

St David, of course, is the patron St of Wales and there are, in our culture, several interesting tales about him. I spent my young years in Bronant in mid Wales going to a County Primary school and learning to speak Welsh. St David’s day was a special day for us when we got to dress in traditional Welsh costume and do creative activities like singing and painting and reciting. Of course, a lot of those paintings were of daffodils which I still love to paint.

Love Your Pet Day February 20 2022

Pets are great for our mental health. They can make each day brighter, can be comfort during sad times, can add to the hilarity of good times, are great on camera and they tell no lies. Generally they are fluff balls of love so who wouldn’t want to love their pet? Sadly there are too many instances of pets not being treated well. Today is national Love Your Pet day to help us celebrate the joy they bring but also to serve as a reminder to take good care of them.

Creativity Requires Courage

This journal page was inspired by the quote [br]

Creativity requires the Courage to let go of Certainty
I think this is never more evident than in the layering process in art so I made this page with layers, letting go of each by adding the next. It's so easy to get attached to a layer that's been added, especially when it's full of colour and serendipitous texture.
