Pop ups are a great way to add some fun to your art journal and I will show you in this post how to make a pop up ‘booklet’ from a page in your journal. When you start thinking of pages in a 3 dimensional way it hugely expands the possibilities for creativity. You’re no longer limited to getting your feelings across in a flat image but can now employ movement, surprise and height to show your thoughts about a topic.

Why You Should Buy Art …

Years ago I lived in Africa with my family for a few years. My dad loved the country and the wildlife with a special interest in the birds, having always been a keen birdwatcher. As a result we spent a fait amount of time visiting nature reserves. A peculiar feature of business there was that artists would sell their crafts and art at the side of the road. This is how my dad acquired a few nice pieces depicting birds and the landscape that still remind him of the things he loved about the area to this day.[br][br]

Getting to Know the Path

My journey to the art I now make started with walks along the portion of the Wales Coastal Path near where I live. When I was unwell I used to walk there with my mother who is very knowledgeable about plants, being a scientist by degree. She would help me identify the many little flowering plants we found there and the birds that came and went. I loved the shapes and colours and soon started photographing them as reference for sketches and paintings I then made at home.
